Can FFP2 Face Masks Prevent the Spread of COVID-19?

FFP2 mask belongs to the category of medical masks. If you can't buy N95 or medical surgical masks, you can try FFP2 masks. FFP2 masks can prevent the new coronavirus, and FFP2 masks are currently the qualified protective masks in Europe. The detection flow rate of this type of mask is 95L/min, and its main function is to prevent or reduce dust and viruses from entering the respiratory organs of the human body from the air.

Is FFP2 mask disposable?

The common FFP2 masks are disposable. FFP2 mask is one of the European mask standards EN149:2001. Its function is to adsorb harmful aerosols, including dust, smoke, fog, toxic gas and toxic vapor through the filter material and prevent them from being inhaled by people. The minimum filtration efficiency of FFP2 is greater than 94%. We usually see the disposable FFP2 masks, and there are also half-face masks and full-face masks, which can achieve multiple uses by replacing the filter element.

Is FFP2 mask a medical mask?

The filter material of FFP2 mask mainly consists of four layers, namely two layers of non-woven fabric, one layer of melt-blown fabric and one layer of acupuncture cotton. FFP2 mask is one of the European mask standards EN149:2001. Its function is to adsorb harmful aerosols, including dust, smoke, fog, toxic gas and toxic vapor through the filter material and prevent them from being inhaled by people. Medical surgical masks, medical protective masks, N95 and FFP2 masks can be used for medical institution protection, so FFP2 is a good medical protective mask.

What is the difference between FFP2 mask and N95?

The difference between N95 mask and FFP2 mask is mainly due to the different standards they adopt. N95 adopts the American standard, and FFP is the European standard. N95 mask is a special type of mask used to prevent industrial dust and PM2.5 haze particles.

N indicates that it can protect nine kinds of particles certified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the United States, such as PM2.5, small dust, bacteria, and viruses. N95 means that the filtration efficiency is above 95%. The European standard test uses the same machine, and FFP2 filters non-oily particles not less than 94%, which is almost the same as N95. The effect of the two is almost the same.

Therefore, the difference between FFP2 and N95 is that they follow different national standards, and their protective effects are similar.
